The USA Story

EquiScentials Horse Care Products have been developed by Dr. Tom Tweeten, a horse owner and trainer. His frustration with human care products adapted for horse use, with products that make the horse coat feel oily or like plastic, and with products that use synthetic fragrances lead him to start working on his first horse product, Coat Enhancer, in 1994.  He introduced that product at Equitana in Louisville in 1996. 

Utilizing his professional experience in chemistry and nutrition, he set out to define, then develop a line of products that would help maintain the coat’s natural shine and at the same time help reduce skin irritations causing itching and rubbing. As a competitor, he wanted products that would enhance the horse’s appearance, shortening preparation time for showing or just going for a trail ride. 

It was important to have products that could be left on the horse without leaving the hair dry, attracting dust, or feeling slick, oily, or waxy over time. His knowledge of ingredients along with advice from veterinarians and aroma therapists, helped in achieving the results he was seeking.

The New Zealand Story

 Jane Stafford has been riding since she was old enough to walk some 30 years ago.  Through Pony Club, hunting, competition, rodeo, the racing industry and now clipping horses through her business Equine Clipping NZ, she has always noticed a need for better products, more education in horse grooming, coat, hoof and skin care. Seeking the best for her horses eventually led her to looking outside New Zealand for a product that did everything it said it would and focused on the horse’s wellbeing - a business relationship was started. 

 "When I first used the products I was relieved and excited!  I have finally found a product that does what it says it does and has the horse’s coat, hooves, mane, tail and skin in mind.  So many products on the market now are focusing on colours and not much else or, they quite simply don’t do what they say.  I found the EquiScentials products enhance the horses' natural coat colour and the body wash rinses so easily and isn't oily. It’s not just my horse that gets so well looked after – our dog gets washed using the EquiCoat body wash and Coat Finisher.  Thanks to the Coat Cleaner, not only is it great for last minute horse leg stains but all of my leather gear also gets looked after so much better now!  I am now addicted to cleaning ALL leather gear with this product - no more saddle soap, the coat cleaner cleans leather as well and also helps restore it.  I can't imagine using anything else on my horses or saddles."
